Sources have revealed that Tesla has confirmed that it will release a new version on the Model S line up with a 75kWh battery pack. The company has not released any information about when this would be made available.

While the Tesla Model S is presently available with a 70kWh and 90kWh battery pack, the 75kWh battery pack variant will work as a mid-variant for approximately USD 3,000 (Rs 2 lakh) over the 70kWh version. Last month Tesla introduced the 75kWh battery pack version on its Model X, but there was no mention of it getting introduced on the Model S.

Tesla could have cited the upgrade for more driving range. The current 70kWh battery powers the RWD and AWD for 376km and 386km on a single charge, and a 5kWh increase in the pack extends the range by another 25km. This could also be Tesla’s chance to sell their existing stock of 70kWh packs (at USD 3,000 less than the 75kWh version) and pile on the bookings at the same time.
