On 1st February 2012, Chennai police traced a badly damaged BMW car (TN 72 AM 8888), abandoned in Nungambakkam, to a man in Palaymakottai, Tirunelveli. The car was being driven by the teenaged brother of the owner, Gaddafi Malik, at around 11.30 pm on 31st January 2012, who had left the car on the site after colliding with a median on Haddows Road.
The hood of the BMW had been damaged beyond repair due to unfortunate collision. Upon reaching the abandoned car, the police started searching for hospitals for anyone who had recently been admitted with injuries. After the police identified the owner of the luxury car, his lawyer came forward and contacted the police. Reportedly, the driver, Akram (19), had left the car at the spot after he suffered some minor injuries. However, the police is trying to determine if there is any other reason owing to which the boy left the car.
On the matter, the police commented, “There was some confusion in the morning when we saw the abandoned car. But we managed to locate the address of the owner by noon. In the evening, a lawyer came with Akram, 19, and said the youngster was driving the car at night, when he smashed into a road divider. Due to bruises on his hands, he left the car there.”
The teenager, son of a business from Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli, had discontinued the course he was studying in a college in Nungambakkam. He had come to Chennai in order to finish some paperwork associated with the car. Following the accident, he has been booked under Section 279 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
