Tata has launched a special version of the Xenon commercial pickup truck called Yodha and has priced it at Rs 6.05 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). It was unveiled in the presence of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and Ravi Pisharody, executive director CV, Tata Motors.

The Xenon had replaced the Tata 207 pickup truck and since then has been a volume generator for Tata Motors. The Xenon sold more than 80,000 units last year with exports contributing to over 10,000 units. The Xenon Yodha will be available in single and double cabin options.

The Yodha is powered by the 3.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine that develops 72bhp of power at 3000rpm and 223Nm of torque starting from 1600rpm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox that has been tweaked for better lugging ability of the Xenon. Payload is rated up to 1,250 kg and is borne by the semi-elliptical leaf springs in the front and a similar but two-stage setup in the back with anti-roll bars both fore and aft.

The Xenon Yodha starts at Rs 6.05 lakh for the single-cab BSIII model and 6.19lakh for the single-cab BSIV model. It offers warranty for 3,00,000 km or three years, whichever comes first along with customised AMC options for the first one lakh kilometres. Ravi Pisharody said the renewed focus on infrastructure, industrial growth and the implementation of GST by the government will improve the business environment and will encourage people to buy more commercial vehicles in 2017. Also Mr Pisharody was happy to say that Akshay Kumar with his charismatic and dynamic persona on and off the screen was the perfect match for the entire range of Tata CVs.
