Tata Motors has officially launched the Safari Storme Varicor 400 at a starting price of Rs 13.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The updated SUV gets a new improved version of the 2.2-litre Varicor diesel engine.
This unit is the same 2.2-litre diesel unit that was showcased on the Hexa Concept at the Geneva Motor Show. This powerplant, which powered the Hexa, produces 154bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. The motor powering the current Storme on sale gives a power output of 138bhp and 320Nm of torque. So in comparison, the new powerful mill will give the massive SUV a good increase in power output and boost its performance substantially.
This new engine comes mated to a new six-speed manual transmission and is equipped with a 260mm self-adjusting clutch. The 2WD or 4WD options will continue to be offered. The new powertrain helps the Safari Storme sprint from 0-100kmph in under 13 seconds and has an ARAI rating of 13.9kmpl.

This facelifted Safari Storme was launched early this year with cosmetic changes in line with the brand’s Horizonext design philosophy and additional features. It boasts of a new infotainment system with six-speakers by Harman with Bluetooth, CD, MP3, USB, Aux-in and i-Pod connectivity, audio streaming and a reverse parking sensor display. All of these were changes added to the appeal of the ageing SUV and the new engine has now also added to the vigour.
The Tata Safari Storme Varicor 400 is available in five colours - arctic silver, urban bronze, pearl white, astern black and arctic white. The company offers a 3 year or 1,00,000 km warranty as standard , which is extendable upto four years or 1,50,000 kms.
