      Tata Osprey under development - Company's first compact SUV

      Compact SUV's have been finding many takers in India. Some of the top choices in this segment have been Ford Ecosport and Renault Duster, until recently when Mahindra has launched the TUV300. In order to strengthen its presence in this new segment, Tata Motors has been working on its very own compact SUV codenamed 'Osprey'. Sources have revealed that the company has been building the Osprey on the Zest and Bolt platform.

      It is belived that Tata Osprey may get a seven-seater layout as seen on the recently launched Mahindra TUV300. It is also anticipated that Tata may offer the upcoming vehicle in petrol as well as diesel engine options. Under the hood, it could be powered by Tata's very own 1.2-litre petrol Revotron engine and the Fiat borrowed 1.3-litre Multijet engine. Inside, the company may also infotainment system and airbags on the higher variants. The company may also offer an optional AMT variant.

      The company has not come up with an official launch date yet and it is anticipated that it may be launched sometime late next year or early 2017. Test mules may also be spotted in the coming days. Post launch, it could emerge as a strong competitor against Ecosport, Duster, TUV300 and the yet to launch Maruti XA Alpha. It could be price around Rs 7-9 Lakh bracket.
