Tata has launched the Nexon compact SUV for the Indian market and has priced it at Rs 5.85 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi, introductory). It is the latest SUV from Tata and is the first time that they have made a vehicle of this type. The Nexon has been launched in four petrol and diesel trims across two engine options.

Tata Nexon what else can you buy

The pricing range is quite large as the top-of-the-line XZ+ dual tone roof variant is priced at Rs 9.46 lakhs stretching almost four lakhs in a part of the market where every increment of even Rs 5000 makes a big difference for the buyer. Here then is a list of other vehicles that you can buy for the  price of a Tata Nexon.

Tata Nexon XE petrol Rs 5.85 lakhs
This is the entry-level petrol and you get all the basics like an AC and some storage but not really much else. Here you can have the Maruti Suzuki Baleno Delta 1.2, Hyundai Elite i20 in the Magna Executive variant or even the Xcent compact sedan in the E Plus Trim.

Tata Nexon XM petrol Rs 6.49 lakhs
It’s a mix of models being offered here as competition for the Nexon. You can have all the large Maruti models like the Baleno (Sigma 1.3), Ertiga (LXI O) as well as the Dzire (LDI). However, also competing with the Nexon here are the Hyundai i20 (Sportz 1.2) and the Amaze which can be had in the Privilege petrol trim.

Tata Nexon XT Petrol Rs 7.29 lakhs
This is where the features fill into the Nexon and you get music system, AC and some additional interior accessories. The Baleno and i20 are here in top spec trims while the Jazz and Polo step in as mid-level trims. This is also the point where the Nexon’s main rival- the Brezza steps in with the LDi trim. Finally, if you are looking for something a bit different you can also have the Bolero in the Plus BS4 trim.

Tata Nexon XZ+ and XZ+ Dual Tone Rs 8.44 lakh and Rs 8.59 lakhs
These are top spec petrol models and the additional 14 grand is for the coloured roof which can only be had in two specific colours. In this price bracket, you get the top spec Amaze, Baleno, Ameo diesel Ertiga AT and the TUV300 T6 Plus.
If quirky is your thing, you can also have the E2o EV in the P6 trim. In terms of direct rivals you also have WR-V VX MT petrol, S-Cross Delta 1.3, NuvoSport N6 and the Ford EcoSport in the Trend+ 1.0-litre Ecoboost variant.

Tata Nexon XE diesel Rs 6.85 lakhs
The diesel variants are priced a lakh over their petrol counterparts but are offered with the same feature list and trim options. This entry-level XE model competes against the  Maruti Dzire in the  VXI AMT variant, Baleno Delta 1.2 AT, i20 Asta 1.2 and the Amaze 1.2 SX MT.

Tata Nexon XM diesel Rs 7.39 lakhs
The Dzire and Baleno make an appearance here once again but this time in the ZXI and Alpha 1.2 trim. They are joined from the Maruti stables by the Ertiga (VXi) and the Brezza in the LDi o trim. The compact sedans play strong here too as you get the Ameo 1.2 highline and Amaze 1.2 VX.

Tata Nexon XT diesel Rs 8.14 lakhs
Surprisingly, after all the above variants having so many rivals, this XT diesel falls in an odd place and so only has the Maruti Dzire VDi (O) and Hyundai i20 Asta 1.4 diesel.

Tata Nexon XZ+ and XZ+ diesel Dual Tone Roof
These are the big daddys of the Nexon range and are the fully loaded top spec diesel models. You have a plethora of rivals for the car but we have selected the closest few that we believe really take on the Nexon.
Firstly, there is the Brezza in the ZDi Plus, Mahindra TUV300 T8 mHawk 100 and the EcoSport in the Trend 1.5 TDCi Black pack. The Ciaz, Rapid and the Verna, which have been the traditional C-segment entrants come in at this price point.
