      Tata Nexon production-ready, launch soon

The Tata Nexon is almost ready to go the market and here is the proof. The Nexon was showcased in Geneva earlier this week and Tata seems to have displayed the production car instead of a show car.

The Tata Nexon is compact crossover which is more of a hatchback than an SUV. The car we have here seems to be a top-spec car, the XZ trim, with projector headlamps with a hint of LED DRLs, front fog lamps and the black-silver five-spoke alloy wheels. The body-coloured mirrors have LED turn indicators on them along with roof-rails and a roof-mounted antenna in the back.

The five-seater Nexon retains the smiley-face of the Tata family of cars but also gets its dose of aggression with the large, black honeycomb-mesh grille. The peripheral cladding and the thick rub-strips on the door panels add to the crossover styling along with the jacked up tail design. The Nexon will be powered by the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine that we saw first driving the Tata Bolt and the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. It will be offered with manual gearboxes to start with and the AMT options will ring in over time.

For its size, it will compete with the likes of the Maruti Baleno and the Honda Jazz but the aggressive pricing strategy adopted by Tatas might make it much more interesting.

With the car almost production ready, we think a launch might be in the offing. April might be a good time for Tata to launch the Nexon, right after the Tigor at the end of March, to make sure that customers who walk in to Tata dealerships might have more options to choose from. But then, we might be a little too excited to see the production-ready car and the launch might actually be scheduled for the next quarter.
