Tata Motors had received over 2,00,000 bookings for its much hyped ultra cheap car Nano. It started deliveries of the model from July 2009 and so far nearly 2500 Nanos have been sold in the Indian market. However, some of the first time owners of the cars are selling the Nano in the second hand market which is fetching them at least 30 percent premium.

"Many of the people who pre-booked a Tata Nano that features central locking, air conditioning is getting the maximum premium.

According to industry experts, this is a transition phase and the demand will fall considerably once the mother plant in Sanand, Gujarat becomes fully operational and Nano vendor’s journey to Sanand. The journey for Nano vendors from Singur to Sanand is in final stages as Tata Motors has held talks with the vendors to move then from Singur to Sanand. It is also in the process to compensate the vendors for about 75 percent of the total cost incurred by them.
