Tata Nano, the most economical car in the country, seems to be regaining momentum in the Indian market, considering its November sales that stood at 6,401 units in the Indian market. Though the sales figures are much lesser as compared to the initial projections of the company in the Indian market, but these figures are as much as 12 fold higher as compared to the sales figures of November 2010, which stood at mere 509 units. While launching the Nano model in India, Tata Motors had projected sales figures of 20,000 units per month for this car.

Launched in the Indian market in March 2009, last two years have been a roller-coaster ride for the Tata Nano model. After achieving a peak of 9,000 units in the month of July 2010, the sales of this car fell sharply to 509 units in November, raising concerns of Tata Motors. The shocking sales figures of November 2010 were a result of Nano’s crippled safety image due to a series of fire incidents (at least half a dozen) in Tata Nano models in different cities of the country.

However, the company took a series of image boosting measures afterwards that comprises of offering special safety kit to be fitted in Nano’s engine compartment (free for all Nano customers), increasing the warranty to 4 years or 60,000 km from earlier limit of 2 years or 30,000 km, and offering fast track loan on zero down payment, etc.

Now the company has also launched an upgraded version of Tata Nano with additional features and enhanced engine power and mileage. The Nano 2012 is offered in the same price as was the price of its older version.
