Tata Nano Mother Plant to Roll Out its First Batch

Tata Nano has definitely made its mark in the Indian market in spite of all odds. Tata Motors is ready with its new mother plant in Gujarat and the first batch of cars will roll out on May 01 which is also the Golden Jubilee Gujarat Day when Gujarat came into being in 1960. The gesture comes as a confirming handshake with Gujarat that intends to bond even more strongly with the state than it did with West Bengal.

Tata Motors migrated from West Bengal in October 2008 amidst strong protests led by Trinamool Congress and Mamta Banerjee. Gujarat rolled out its red carpet for Tata Motors and offered its prime land at a soft loan of 0.1 percent which is repayable after a period of 20 years. Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi expected the plant to commence within one year. However, owing to the crunch faced by Tata Motors by acquisition of JLR brands and bitter experience of leaving near-ready plant in Singur, the plant will now finally go into production only after one and half year.

The small car production will shift to Rs 2,000-crore Sanand plant from next month - this cost includes the re-location cost of about Rs 700 crore.
