Tata Motors announced that it has received 2,03,000 bookings for its ultra-cheap car, Nano. This means that the company has raked in nearly Rs. 2500 crores with bookings itself. The booking numbers are double the amount of number which will be delivered during the first round.
Though impressive, it is quite a bit short of the numbers of bookings that the buzz around the car indicated. Expectations were even ranging up to 10 lakhs bookings, so there is some subdued disappointment.
The company stated that about 4000 cash bookings were received through its website www.tatanano.com. Nearly 70 percent bookings were done through finance option and rest were done via application through cash payment.
The base model accounted for 20 percent of the bookings while 30 percent bookings were made for mid-range model and Nano LX or the top end model received 50 percent of the bookings.
Now the world and especially the Indian buyers anxiously wait for the lottery draw expected to be done within next 60 days where the company will announce the names of first 100,000 lucky owners of Tata Nano. Tata Motors will start the deliveries in July 2009.
