      Tata Motors sells 49611 units in August 2013

      One of the country's leading automobile manufacturers, Tata Motors, announced its sales statistics for the month of August, 2013. Tata Motors sold a total of 49611 units, inclusive of exports, in August, which included both commercial and passenger vehicles. At the end of the month, the total sales for Tata Motors for the fiscal year 2013-14 (till now) were 254355 units. A break down of the total count depicts the kind of performance the firm had in the domestic and international markets, individually. During the period, the company sold a total of 44717 units (both commercial and passenger vehicles) in the domestic car market of India.

      Tata Motors is known for selling a number of commercial vehicles in the Indian market, which have performed extremely well. In the month of August, Tata Motors recorded sales of 33153 commercial vehicles in total, out of which 24904 were LCVs and 8249 were M&HCVs. Following these statistics, Tata Motors' count for the current fiscal year till August in the domestic market stood at 176853 units. Out of the 176853 units sold in the domestic market for the fiscal year 2013-14 up till the month, LCVs accounted for 127547 units.

      The passenger vehicle market in India has been suffering from a slowdown for the past few months, resulting in low sales counts for most auto makers. Tata Motors' performance in the passenger car segment has been criticised in the recent past, something that is reflected by the numbers. The company sold a total of 11564 passenger cars in the month of August. Out of these, Nano, Indica and Indigo had a total share of 8761 units whereas Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture accounted for 2803 units. Total sales of passenger cars for the current fiscal year till August was 56896, which comprises 44780 units of Nano, Indica and Indigo along with 12116 units of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture.
