      Tata Motors sales surge 22 percent in September 2011

      The country’s largest vehicle maker Tata Motors has registered a sales surge of 22 percent in the month of September 2011. The company managed to sell a total of 78,786 units of its vehicles in the Indian market during this month, as compared to 64,668 units sold in the same month last year.

      The total sales in the segment of passenger vehicles in the Indian market stood at 26,319 units as compared to 23,877 units sold in the same month last year, accounting for a sales surge of 10.22 percent.

      The sales of company’s flagship small car Tata Nano, which has been in the headlines due to recent fire incidents, stood at 2,936 units, registering a slide of 47 percent over the sales of same month last year. The sales of company’s Indica range stood at 10,282 units, about 64 percent up from the sales during September 2010.

      However, the sales of Indigo series of cars stood at 7,793 units, registering a decrease of 11 per cent as compared to the sales of same month last year. On the other hand, the utility vehicles of Tata Motors including Tata Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture, registered a total sales of 5,308 units, up 60 percent as compared to the sales in same month last year.

      The exports of the company from the Indian market surged by 23 percent to 6,220 units, as compared to 5,057 units exported in the same month last year.
