      Tata Motors rejoices in May, cumulative sales stood at 64,347 units

      Cumulative monthly sales for May 2012 (including exports) of Tata Motors, the Indian multinational car maker, stood at 64,347 units, showing an increase of 4 per cent, when evaluated against same period last year. The figures reported on account for national sales of company’s commercial and passenger vehicles during the period were 60,128 units, representing a growth of 6 per cent under the review of 56,571 units sold in year-ago period. During the fiscal, the cumulative sales (including exports) of Tata Motors stood at 124,433 units, showing a contraction of 2 per cent, as last year’s figures were 126,353 units.

      Considering the sales of commercial vehicles of Tata Motors, in May 2012 the domestic figurers reported an increase of 7 per cent with 39,625 units when compared against 37,170 units sold in same tenure last year. The sales of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) were registered at 27,174 units, marking a growth of 26 per cent against 21,638 units delivered in May 2011. The sales of Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV) were recorded at 12,451 units, which showed a fall of 20 per cent as evaluated against 15,532 vehicles sold in May 2011.

      During the fiscal, Tata Motor’s comprehensive sales of commercial vehicles in national market stood at 74,272 units, reporting an increase of 1 per cent against the figures of last year. The overall sales of LCV were 51,992 units, showing a growth of 17 per cent as compared to previous year’s data. The sales figures of Medium and HCV were recorded at 22,280 units, marking a downfall of 24 per cent over the figures of last year.

      The passenger vehicles sales of Tata Motors for May 2012 stood at 20,503 units, showing growth of 6 per cent against 19,401 units sold in the corresponding period last year. Within passenger vehicle segment, the sales of Tata Nano reported a hike of 31 per cent with 8,507 units, under the review of 6,515 units delivered during the same period in 2011. During the month, the sales of Indica were reduced by 1 per cent with 5,467 units against 5,497 units registered in the corresponding period last year. The sales of Indigo ranged at 3,397 units, showing a fall of 20 per cent against 4,268 units sold in same tenure last year. The cumulative sales of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture stood at 3,132 units during May 2012.

      The comprehensive sales of Tata Motors passenger vehicles stood at 43,161 units, showing an increase of 1 per cent over 42,788 units recorded till May 2011. The overall sales of Tata’s iconic Nano stood at 16,535 units, whereas comprehensive sales of Indica ranged at 12,380 units with an increase of 27 per cent. The total sales of Indigo brand stood at 7,066 units with a downfall of 26 per cent, whereas comprehensive sales of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture were reported at 7,180 units with a surge of 3 per cent. Considering the sales of Tata’s associate companies, figures of Jaguar Land Rover kept a speedy pace in the Indian auto market.

      Highlighting exports of the company, the figurers stood at 4,219 units for May 2012, which witnessed a downfall of 24 per cent when evaluated against 5,534 units sold in same tenure last year. During the fiscal, the overall exports of the company stood at 7,000 units, falling by 29 per cent against 9,792 units recorded in corresponding period last year.
