Tata Motors India wishes to expand its operations in Indonesia and Eastern Europe. For that purpose, the Chairman of Tata Motors, Ratan N Tata wants to establish an assembly facility for its car model the Nano. Tata on Friday at the 66th Annual General Meeting said “As far as Tata Nano is concerned, we are looking at setting up assembly facility in Indonesia and some parts of Eastern Europe”.

Tata also expressed that the firm is planning to introduce Nano at a large scale in the International automobile market. This year, they have already started exporting Tata Nano to Nepal and Sri-Lanka. Apart from Nano, the company stated that they are planning to explore Latin America along with South-East Asia. After Chevrolet, Tata Motors is also looking forward to launch an environment friendly car by launching Nano as an electric variant. They have even started work with the electric concept by presenting their other model-Pixel, earlier this year at Geneva Motor Show. Their plan is to initially introduce electric car models in European countries like Norway and United Kingdom.

Apart from Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia are also in negotiation to have similar Nano plants.  Reportedly, for the establishment of assembly units in Indonesia, the Tata Motors are in negotiation with PT Astra International, to set up Nano plant by 2013.

In the domestic front, the company is providing Nano-specific dealerships in order to elevate sales of Tata Nano. “We are taking different initiatives to increase visibility of Tata Nano, the results of which will be seen in a few months,” commented Tata.

Tata Motors along with China is planning to establish a joint venture (JV) for manufacturing Land Rover and Jaguar automobiles. According to the reports, during the first quarter of the Chinese financial year, Jaguar Land Rover was able to sell 9500 models. On this, Ratan Tata stated, “We are looking at JV in China, which is mandatory as per Chinese government regulations. One of the party with whom we are talking to has a license to operate in China.”
