Maruti Suzuki's Alto has been the front runner in the terms of sale in small car segment in India. Though the Nano hatchback from Tata Motors was offered as world's most affordable car, it failed to attract teh desired sales numbers. This time around, in an attempt to revive sales for Tata Motors the company has reportedly been planning on launching on the all new hatchback to compete with Maruti's popular Alto.
The vehicle planned to be launched by Tata Motors is likely to be the new Tata Pelican that has been awaiting launch for quite a while now. The vehicle is likely to be powered by 1.0 Liter, 3 cylinder engine. The company has not spoken on the pricing aspect for now, it is likely to offered at a cost of about Rs. 2.5 Lakhs and may hit the tarmac sometime in 2016.
Official from Tata Motors have however declined to reveal more information on the upcoming vehicle. A company official said, “We do not comment on future product plans.”Post launch the new car is likely to emerge as a strong contender against Maruti Suzuki's Alto in the country.
