Tata Motors, the largest auto maker in India by revenue, has witnessed not-so-good times with its Aria in the domestic auto market as the model has not received much appreciation from the masses. It must be noted that the sales performance of the model is so unfavourable that during February 2013, the auto maker delivered just 4 units of the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV). Owing to this, Tata Motors is mulling to turn the tides in its favour and therefore, it is offering a cash discount of Rs. 2 lakhs on the purchase of every model.

Interestingly, Aria is one of the flagship models of Tata Motors in Indian passenger vehicle segment and has been reporting a minute section of company’s overall sales. Reportedly, the company is also planning to offer an additional discount of Rs. 50,000 over Rs. 2 lakh in case the customer is willing to sell his current car to the auto maker. Industry experts are of a view that with a discount of Rs. 2.5 lakh, Tata Aria comes as a very competitive model and a true value for money proportion. It must be noted that the Tata Aria comes at an introductory price of Rs. 9.9 lakh.

The model comes equipped with a 2.2 litre DiCOR turbo diesel engine, which has a displacement of 2179 cc. The maximum power generated by the engine of this model stands at 140 bhp at 4000 rpm with a highest torque of 320 Nm at a low 1700 rpm. Adding to the performance of this engine, there is a 5 speed manual transmission system, which is doing a good job. Interestingly, the top end variant of Tata Aria comes assimilated with an all wheel drive system and also flaunts a wide array of features, which adds to the convenience of its passengers.

A thing to note here is that Tata Motors is offering massive discounts even after the increase in excise duty on utility vehicles to 30 per cent from earlier 27 per cent. On the move of reducing prices of Aria, auto analysts stated that it is yet to see that this massive discount would assist Tata Motors to pull in some decent volumes with its Aria MPV in the competitive utility vehicle segment.
