      Tata Motors global sales surged 9 percent in March 2011

      Tata Motors, the largest vehicle maker in the Indian market, said on Friday that its global sales in the month of March 2011 surged 9 percent to 110,785 units.

      The overall global sales of its commercial vehicles jumped 19 percent during the month. The company managed to sell a total of 56,814 units of its commercial vehicles in the global market as compared to 53,971 units sold in the same month last year.

      The sales of company’s British subsidiary Jaguar & Land Rover surged by 2 percent to 24,101 units in the month. Land Rover emerged as the major contributor in the sales of JLR with registering a sales growth of 8 percent. Tata Motors had acquired JLR from Ford Motors in year 2008 and since then the subsidiary has been performing considerably well. JLR is now planning to expend its footprints in the global market along with enhancing its manufacturing capacity to catch-up with the rising demand for its cars.

      In India, Tata Motors is one of the leading car makers and sells a range of cars across segment that comprises of small car Tata Nano, hatchback Indica Vista, Indigo series sedans, SUVs like Tata Safari, Sumo and MUV Aria.
