      Tata Motors geared up for the launch of Safari Storme in October; plans to offset the 3.82 per cent sales deficit for September

      Tata Motors, the country's largest auto company, is planning to introduce its new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), Safari Storme, in October 2012, which is likely to change the tides in its favour. In the month of September 2012, the auto company witnessed a fall of 3.82 per cent as the total sales of the company stood at 75,773 units against 78,783 units delivered in the year ago month.

      The total sales in passenger vehicle segment stood at 21,652 units during the period, which reported a dip of 17.73 per cent against 26,319 units sold in corresponding tenure of last year. However, the sales of Nano surged by 87.02 per cent as Tata Motors sold 5,491 units of the model in September 2012 against the 2,936 Nanos sold in same month of 2011.

      Considering the sales of Indica family, the fleet registered a fall of 22.82 per cent with sales standing at 7,936 units against the 10,282 models sold in September 2011. The Indigo fleet too witnessed a fall of 52.44 per cent with sales of 3,706 vehicles during the month, under the review of 7,793 units sold in same period of last year. The sales of company's Utility Vehicles (UVs), comprising Sumo, Safari and Aria, also dipped by 14.86 per cent amounting to 4,519 units against 5,308 models sold in same tenure of 2011.

      During the period, Tata Motors delivered 48,680 vehicles in Commercial Vehicles (CV) segment of the domestic market, which marked an increase of 5.26 per cent under the review of 46,247 units sold in September last year. The LCV sales in September 2012 stood at 33,393 units with a growth of 18.87 per cent against 28,092 units sold in the same tenure of 2011. Considering the sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicle, the figures were reported at 15,287 units, which registered a dip of 15.80 per cent against 18,155 vehicles sold in same period of last year.

      Tata Motors' exports reduced by 12.48 per cent with figurers standing at 5,441 units, under the review of 6,217 units delivered in September 2011.

      Industry experts believe that the auto maker has surely framed some aggressive plans for the Indian auto market, as it currently has two weapons in its arsenal; Safari Storme and Nano Diesel, which will definitely pull in some decent volumes for the company.
