Tata Motor reports a surge in sales with 15 per cent growth in July 2012

Marking a growth of 15 per cent over July 2011, the sales figures of Tata Motor’s commercial and passenger vehicles stood at 74,159 units, including exports. The sales of the company on the domestic turf were recorded at 68,627 vehicles, which show an increment of 18 per cent over the 57,990 units delivered in the corresponding period last year. For the fiscal 2013, the largest auto maker of South Asia reported an overall volume of 2,64,702 vehicles progressing by 2 per cent over 2,59,649 units sold in last fiscal.

Coming to sales of Commercial Vehicles (CV), the auto maker delivered 42,387 units in July, 2012 in India with a surge of 4 per cent against the recorded sales of 40,798 models in same period of 2011. Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) sold 29,601 units compared to 24,962 units sold last year, marking a Year-over-Year (YoY) surge of 19 per cent. At the same time, the sales of Medium and Heavy CV declined by 19 per cent to 12,786 units against 15,836 sold in July, 2011.

For the current fiscal, the total sales for CVs stood at 1,57,685 in India, which is a YoY surge of 2 per cent. On the other hand, Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) reported a growth of 19 per cent with a sales volume of 1,09,956 units and the Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCV) sold 47,729 units with a dip of 22 per cent.

Bringing the sales of passenger vehicle segment in limelight, Tata Motors sold 26,240 units in July 2012 with an increase of 53 per cent over 17,192 vehicles delivered last year in July. Sales of Tata Nano surged by 68 per cent to clock a figure of 5,485 units during the period against 3,260 units sold in the corresponding tenure last year. At the same time, the Indica range swell by 51 per cent with sales of 8,852 vehicles in July 2012 compared to 5,860 sold in same period last year. While, the Indigo range reported sales of 6,816 vehicles, up by 40 per cent against 4,877 units sold in same month of 2011. The SUV range comprising Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture climbed up by 59 per cent having sold 5,087 units in July 2012 against 3,195 models sold in corresponding month of 2011.

Tata Motor’s cumulative sales too hiked by 5 per cent with a volume of 86,679 units in July 2012, while in same period last year, the company sold 82,300 units. With the cumulative sales of 27,625 vehicles, the figures of Tata Nano grew by 9 per cent over 25,239 units sold in last year. The Indica range marked a growth of 12 per cent in its cumulative sales, which stood at 26,564 units and that of the Indigo series dipped by 14 per cent at 16,540 units. The SUV line-up registered a growth of 14 per cent in its cumulative sale, which stood at 15,950 units. The wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rover continues to perform consistently in the country.

However, the exports of the car maker in July 2012 witnessed a dip of 15 per cent with 5,532 units shipped overseas as compared to 6,512 units exported in the corresponding month of 2011. For the fiscal 2013, the cumulative sales from the exports for Tata Motors stood at 20,338 units, down 13 per cent from 23,506 sold in July 2011.
