      Tata, Mahindra and Toyota end 2011 with impressive sales growth

      Tata Motors Limited and Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, two of the most prominent car makers of India, witnessed growth in vehicle sales with the end of 2011. The future also seems bright as a report from Deloitte stated that the overall demand in the country's auto sector in 2012 is likely to improve with ease in inflation and stable fuel prices.

      Tata Motors sold 82,278 units, including exports, in December 2011 and became India's biggest car maker by sales, an increase of 22%. On the other hand, the market leader of sport utility vehicles, Mahindra sold 42,761 vehicles, up by 26%. Tata Motors is the leader in selling cheapest diesel-powered passenger cars such as Indica, while Mahindra sells mostly diesel-powered SUVs and MUVs.

      Tata Motors witnessed a growth of 27% as compared to 2010 as it sold 29,417 passenger vehicles, namely Indica, Vista, Indigo and Aria, in December 2011. The sales figures of the cheapest car of the world, Nano, rose by 29% to 7,466 units. Tata was able to sell 47,747 trucks and buses were sold in December 2011 with exports falling 3% to 5,615 units.

      The sales of Mahindra & Mahindra grew 24% to 19,341 units in December 2011 which includes utility vehicles and the Verito. The company exported 2,870 vehicles in December 2011, growing to 89%.

      The sales of Indian unit of Toyota Motor Corp, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, also doubled to 15,948 units in 2011, compared to 6,362 units in 2010. The yearly volume of the company increased with the sales of 43,313 units of Etios sedans and 20,262 units of Liva hatchbacks in 2011.
