After launching the Tiago at a frankly stellar price range, Tata is now working on a new compact sedan called the Kite 5. Shown at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Kite 5 is headed for production sometime later this year. It will be launched around this festive season.

Being a compact sedan, the Kite 5 is 3.99 metres long and like the Zest, will have a wheelbase of around 2.47 metres. The boot space, meanwhile, will be around 330litres. Inside, the cabin’s design is based on the Tiago which is a good thing. Not only is the layout of materials easy on the eye, the overall quality is decent as well.

The Kite will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit that produces 83bhp and 114Nm of torque while the diesel is a 1.05-litre unit with 69bhp and 140Nm. Both engines will be offered with a 5-speed manual as standard though there is a possibility of an AMT option for the petrol model.

With prices ranging between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 6 lakh, the Kite 5 will compete with the upcoming Chevrolet Essentia in the Indian market.
