Tata Motors, the Indian auto giant, is all set to launch the Bolt hatchback in the country today. The bookings for the hatchback have already been commenced at a token amount of Rs. 11,000. It will be the second new compact car under the company's new HORIZONEXT product strategy. The first product was the Zest compact sedan. Just like the Zest, the hatchback too has been designed taking inputs from three Tata Motors design studios -

Pune (India), Coventry (UK), and Turin (Italy).

The Bolt hatchback will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. The petrol version dervies its power from a 1.2-litre turbocharged Multi-Point Fuel Injection (MPFi) engine that churns out a maximum power output of 90PS and a peak torque of 140Nm. The hatchback will offer three driving modes- Sport, City and Eco modes. The diesel engine is the fiat-sourced 1.3-litre multijet unit that is good for 75PS and 190Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels of the car via a 5-speed manual transmission. The company might also introduce the automated manual transmission (AMT) equipped version, but at a later stage.

The Tata Bolt hatchback offers a spacious cabin, which is loaded with several segment first features. The centre console of the small car has best-in-class experience of infotainment and HVAC. Also on offer is the HARMAN touchscreen infotainment system with MapMyIndia for smart phone based navigation. On the safety front, the Bolt hatchback gets ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), EBD, dual airbags and corner stability control that ensure a safe drive.
