Tata Motor’s ambitious project of a home-grown two-door mid-engined sportscar, Tamo Racemo, has triumphed at the 2018 German Design Awards.

The two-seater coupe concept bagged the Gold in the “Excellent Product Design Conceptional Transportation” category. The Racemo was Tata’s first plunge into innovative ventures within the passenger vehicle business with a dedicated Tamo vertical. The show car from the 2017 Geneva Motor Show showcased the new MO-Flex platform, with connected features and the carmaker’s new Impact Design philosophy. It was built ground-up at Tata’s Design Studio in Turin, Italy. The design was penned down by Pratap Bose who is the global head of design at Tata Motors.

According to the Mumbai-based carmaker, the Racemo is India’s first globally developed ‘phygital’ car, merging the physical and digital worlds. Also being India’s first connected car, the Racemo was powered by Microsoft’s technologies such as cloud computing, analytics, geo-spatial and mapping, and increased human-machine interface. Tata, however, doesn’t have any plans of bringing the Racemo to the Indian streets any time soon. Although, the Racemo can be driven in its virtual avatar in the Microsoft gaming franchise, Forza Horizon 3.

Pratap Bose, speaking on this accomplishment, said, “With the Racemo winning the award for International Design Excellence, within a few months from its first global showcase, marks a very important milestone for Tata Motors’ Design Team. The Racemo was the result of intense collaboration between the design and engineering team at Tata Motors. What started off as a design study, today stands strong as a production-ready two-seater sports coupe, specially designed for the global Indian audience. All of us at Tata Motors are very proud and excited about bringing the car to India.”
