Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country’s largest passenger car maker, has revealed that its Swift DZire and Ertiga models have been awarded the prestigious 2013 India Design Mark: Good Design Award. The company had previously won the same award for its WagonR and Swift hatchback models in 2012.
Indian Design Mark awards recognise the efforts made by product designers, as well as the reliability, overall design and value for money offered by their goods. These awards also take into account the manner in which the cars are manufactured by the company, which should be done in a responsible manner. The esteemed India Design Mark awards have been started in association with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). The jury panel featured senior faculty members of the country’s leading design institutes, along with many well known design experts of the industry.
Expressing his delight on Swift DZire and Ertiga receiving the prestigious award, C. V. Raman, Executive Director, Engineering at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, was quoted as saying, “The core philosophy at Maruti Suzuki is to design products which have the highest standards in design and engineering. This prestigious award for the second consecutive year is an acknowledgment of our passion and commitment to maintain the highest design standards for our cars. It also showcases our maturity in design engineering.”
Swift DZire and Ertiga remain among Maruti Suzuki’s best selling models in the Indian passenger car market. The company witnessed sales of 169,571 units of Swift DZire entry level sedan and 76,375 units of Ertiga Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) during the 2012-13 fiscal. Further, both the models feature on top of their respective segments in the country.
