      - Diesel version of Suzuki Vitara spotted on test in India

      - New Vitara likely to get fresh cosmetic and feature upgrades

      - Post launch will compete against Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur

Since the time Suzuki launched the previous generation Vitara under the Grand Vitara banner in India, it has been the talk of the town. This time around, the new Vitara from Suzuki has been spotted on test in India, thereby leading us into believing that it might make it to India sometime soon. Going by industry trends, there has been an increase in demand for cars in the utility vehicle segment which might be an explanation to why the company has been testing the vehicle in India. If introduced, the Vitara might emerge as a strong competitor against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur.

Based on what can be seen, the test mule was spotted in a turquoise metallic shade with high-mounted stop light. Moreover, the test mule also featured roof rails, five-spoke alloys, two-piece tail lamps and a rear windshield wiper. Although much about the interior is not known for now, we believe that it might get a revised upholstery and new feature upgrades in the form of a touchscreen infotainment system and engine start/stop button.

Reports indicate that the one spotted on test was powered by a diesel engine. Across the global market, the Vitara is positioned above the S-Cross where it is offered with a choice of two petrol engines and one diesel unit. The petrol version gets a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine that generates 118bhp and 156Nm of torque. The second petrol unit is a 1.4-litre, turbocharged engine that generates 138bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. The diesel version on the other hand gets a 1.6-litre unit that generates 118bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. An all-wheel drive system is offered as an optional extra. The vehicle will get a choice of five-speed or a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission.

More details about the Suzuki Vitara will be known in the days to come.
