      Suzuki Nissan to Have a Tie-Up in India

      Maruti Suzuki India Limited is India’s largest car manufacturer and the second largest car exporter in the country. Its parent company Suzuki Motor Corp is planning to have a tie up in India with the Japanese auto maker Nissan Motors.

      The two companies plan to form a company that will set up manufacturing facilities in India. The Suzuki-Nissan alliance shall invest nearly $1.5 billion in India to set up this manufacturing and export facility. It eventually plans to export 3.5 lakh units annually.

      Nissan has already set up its plant in Thailand to manufacture its cars. It further plans to set up more manufacturing units in the emerging markets. It will manufacture one of its models from its portfolio in alliance with Suzuki Motor Corp. Mayank Pareek, Executive Officer (marketing and sales), MSIL, talked to the reporters on the sidelines of the launch of its latest model, Maruti A-Star. He said that the agreement will be signed in the first quarter of 2009 and terms and conditions are currently being negotiated.
