      Ssangyong to expand global portfolio with launch of four new SUVs by 2015

      Ssangyong Motor Company (SMC), a South Korean subsidiary of the Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra, is planning to launch as many as four new sports utility vehicles (SUVs) in the global market over the period of next four years.

      The company has unveiled XIV 2, an SUV concept, at the Geneva Auto Show, a production version of which will be launched in the global market in coming years. The company will commence the commercial production of this vehicle by year 2015, which will be followed by its launch in as many as 40 different regions across the globe.

      Speaking to PTI in a recent statement, Mr. Yoo II Lee, SsangYong Motor Company President and CEO, said, "After Mahindra took over, the company is looking to aggressively expand its product portfolio. As part of this plan, we will launch four new SUVs by 2015."

      In India, the company is looking forward to launch a new compact SUV in range of sub 4 meters, by year 2015. While elaborating the firm’s future plans to debut in India, Mr. Lee said, "In India, we will launch this concept in a modified version. We will produce it as a compact SUV targeting length of less than 4 meters to avail the excise duty benefit."
