Toyota University Cricket Championship (TUCC), an inter-university sports tournament organised by Toyota Kirloskar Motors, kicked off amid immense public interest and media coverage at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The stadium hosted the grand opening ceremony of TUCC that was graced with the presence of brilliant actor Shah Rukh Khan and the Indian cricket legend- Rahul Dravid. Present during the ceremony were the musical trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy who sang the tournament anthem- ‘Ab hamari baari hai’, which has a close resemblance with classic rock’s iconic song ‘We will rock you’ by Queen.

TUCC has been organised by Toyota Kirloskar Motors, an Indo-Japanese joint venture between the Kirloskar Group and Toyota Motor Corp., as a brand promotion and crowd engaging exercise. The tournament will see eight teams battling it out against each other for the coveted cup prize and will provide a pedestal to talented youngsters for displaying their cricketing abilities. The eight teams will be coached by some renowned and esteemed cricket’s legendary ex-players. Further, the first match is to be played between Mumbai University and Jamia Millia Islamia.

Expressing his views on the occasion, Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman (VC), Toyota Kirloskar Motors, said, “At the outset, I would like to congratulate all the eight teams who have made it this far in this journey. Toyota is very glad to be associated with University Cricket as we have always believed in promoting sports among the youth. TUCC is a very good initiative to promote cricket at the university level and we are glad to contribute to this revolutionary concept of promoting young talent. We look forward to a very exciting series and wish all the participants the very best.”

Further, Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director (DMD) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Toyota Kirloskar Motors, was quoted as saying, “We are very happy to be a part of TUCC as it encourages and promotes young cricketing talent in India. It is our endeavour to connect with the youth of today and what better way than the most popular form of sports in India to connect with the youth. On behalf of Toyota I wish all the players the best of luck and let’s enjoy an exciting and thrilling season of cricket.”
