In India finding a car that is disabled-friendly is indeed difficult to find. In comparison to most developed countries across the globe we are indeed short of helping out our disabled citizens with easy commuting options. To solve this long-standing issue, a Bangaluru resident named B V Narayana has improvised a special design that aids in easy driving for the disabled. Narayana himself had been a victim of an unfortunate road accident that took place around three years ago and left him partially handicapped due to a ligament tear. Prior to the accident he has reportedly traveled about 56,000 miles across 59 countries way back in 1979.

The newly designed battery-operated wheelchair-cum-car is compact and fits in easy into the tightest spot. The vehicle can be maneuvered using just one handle using just a single limb. The battery takes about 6 hours to be fully charged and can run for about 20 kms with a full charge. Its more of a one-seater wheelchair that is available in many interesting shades and even be folded and carried around.

Speaking more on the occasion to sources, Narayana said, “I traveled around India in 1978 with four friends on a bike. I had remodeled the bike into a five-wheeler. One friend later suggested designing such a bike for his disabled son. After my accident I started gathering parts of a scooter and a car seat to design this vehicle. It cost me Rs 1 lakh.”
