Skoda Auto, a fully owned subsidiary of the Europe’s largest car maker Volkswagen, is all set to launch a new sedan in the highly competitive C segment very soon. This new sedan, named as Skoda Lauretta, will be based on the platform of Volkswagen’s popular mid-size sedan Vento.
A few designing characteristics have been directly applied from Vento to Lauretta sedan including the prominent shoulder line. However, the front profile of the car shows similarity with the Fabia hatchback.
The new Skoda sedan is speculated to be powered by the same tried and tested 1.6 liter petrol engine that has been doing duties in the Vento model. Moreover, Vento’s 1.6 liter diesel engine will also be used in powering the diesel version of Lauretta model. The maximum power of both diesel and petrol versions will be 105 bhp.
As per unconfirmed media reports, the all new Skoda sedan could be launched in the upcoming festive season in October this year, while deliveries of the car in the country would be taking place by the end of this year. The company, however, is yet to reveal the time line of launch and specification details of the car in the Indian auto market.
The current portfolio of Skoda in the Indian auto market include premium hatchback Fabia, premium sedans like Laura and Superb, and premium Sports utility vehicle (SUV) Skoda Yeti.
