Skoda Auto, a unit of the largest European car maker Volkswagen AG, has revealed the first sketches of the much awaited new version of the premium sedan Skoda Rapid. The 2013 Skoda Rapid model will be shelved between the Fabia and Octavia in the compact category with a number of cosmetic changes at both exterior and interior fronts. The car will be initially launched in the European market by the end of this year, which will be followed by the launch of the car in a number of other countries, a few months later.
Developed on the platform of their parent Volkswagen’s popular Polo car’s platform, the new Skoda Rapid 2013 will be rolled-out in both petrol and diesel versions. The majority of the designing of new Rapid is inspired by the Skoda Mission L Concept which was showcased at the 2012 Frankfurt Motor Show.
As per the industry sources, Skoda Rapid won’t be carrying parent Volkswagen’s new MQB platform based engines. Instead, the car is expected to be carrying engines designed on conventional foundation. Moreover, the car will be blessed with additional boost space of 500 liters.
In India, the Skoda Rapid model was launched in year 2011, where it has been receiving a good response from the buyers of this segment. The car is giving a tough fight to the competitors like Volkswagen Vento, Honda City, Fiat Linea, Hyundai Verna and Ford Fiesta.
