The Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo edition will be rebadged as Edition X in the Indian market. Skoda India was compelled to take this decision due to the 'Monte Carlo' trademark dispute.

Skoda had launched the Rapid Monte Carlo in August 2017 with prices starting at Rs 10.75 lakhs (ex-showroom). However, the carmaker soon pulled this special edition off its website due to a trademark infringement case. Clothing and apparel brand, Monte Carlo Fashions, had alleged the infringement of their trademark under the Trade Marks Act, 1999. The court ruled against Skoda and the carmaker had to drop this name.

In terms of cosmetic changes and features, the Rapid Edition X will be same as the Monte Carlo edition. It will continue to get a dual-tone front bumper, a black grille, smoked headlamps, fog lamps etc. The roof and B-pillar is blacked-out and the car sports black alloy wheels too. The cabin might remian unchanged too with the same interior equipment to be carried over.

The Rapid Monte Carlo edition was offered with choice of a petrol or diesel engine, which will be available with the Edition X too. The 1.6-litre petrol mill delivers 103bhp and 153Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre diesel motor belts out 109bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. The engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Buyers looking for an automatic version can opt for the petrol version that comes with an optional six-speed automatic, while the diesel gets a seven-speed DSG option. Prices are expected to be revealed soon, which we think are likely to remain unchanged.
