Skoda has announced that its new SUV will be called the Karoq. The name is a portmanteau of terms from the Alaskan indigenous language - Kaa Raq (car) and Ruq (arrow). It is the second car from the Czech automaker’s lineup to take its name from the region.

Yesterday, we published India exclusive spy shots of the almost undisguised Karoq, while it was doing test rounds in its home ground. The photos show us that the Karoq has picked up most of its design from the larger Kodiaq and will be a crossover that will be positioned under the former. Noticeable design elements include the moustache Skoda grille, angular headlamps, forward leaning stance and arrow-head shaped tail lamps which sport a C-shaped pattern within for the light guides. We have spoken in detail about the design of the car and you can read about it here.

Commenting on the announcement of the new Karoq moniker for this SUV, Werner Eichhorn, board member for sales and marketing said, “It is important to us to give our new SUV a powerful name. It also forms a part of a naming approach across our SUV models. At the same time, we are creating exceptional and memorable brand recognition value for our customers.”
