Skoda Kodiaq: All the details explained

The Skoda Kodiaq has been launched in India and has been priced at Rs 34.49 lakhs (All India ex-showroom). It’s the largest vehicle that Skoda makes and is now their new flagship vehicle in the lineup. It was shown as a concept in early 2016 and then launched in production guise a few months later. The Kodiaq is being offered in India in one top-of-the-line Style variant and gets all the bells and whistles that Skoda has for its vehicles in India. Packaged into this vehicle is three-zone climate control, leather seats, touchscreen infotainment system with 12 speakers, multiple 12V charging sockets, panoramic sunroof and a plethora of storage spaces across all three rows. Some extra luxury bits include an electric tail gate, ambient lighting in the cabin, hands free parking and electric front seats. In terms of safety you have nine airbags, ABS, ESP and traction control programme. The list is large, lengthy and makes it clear that Skoda has not skimped when it comes to pampering its buyers.

Powering the Kodiaq is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing 150bhp/340Nm. This engine is being offered only with a seven-speed DSG. Additionally, you also get six driving modes as well as AWD programme as a part of the engine package.
On the design front, you have the signature Skoda elements like the moustache grille, LED head lamps and even a special interpretation of the C-shaped tail lamps that have defined the modern Skoda range of vehicles. The cabin is quite similar to the Superb sedan, but in a scaled up manner to suit the larger size of the vehicle.

The Skoda Kodiaq’s pricing puts it right in the middle of two ranges of vehicles. On one hand, it takes on the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitusbishi Pajero Sport. On the other end of the spectrum, you also have compact luxury vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1 and the Volvo V40 Cross Country. The latter might be smaller compared to the Kodiaq, but they hold importance in this price range thanks to their luxury badges.
