Speaking more on the occasion SIAM said, “Rotted fuel lines leaking gasoline or diesel fuel onto hot engine parts and leaks in the fuel system are the most common cause of vehicle fires.” Ignoring timely maintenance is said to cause problems like excessive heating that can indeed lead to vehicle catching fire. Adding to the issue, an official from road transport ministry said, “All the stakeholders - government, manufacturers and users - have to do their bit to reduce such incidents. The proposed Draft Road Transport and Safety Bill addresses most of the issues including sale of poor quality and spurious vehicle parts and also unauthorised retrofitting. There are stringent provisions to reduce such cases.”

As per report making use of something as small as non-genuine horns can lead to short-circuits. Moreover, using unauthorised retrofitting like CNG and LPG cylinders can also lead to fire problems. At the fire safety week organized by SIAM in Delhi, top ten reasons for fire outbreak has been mentioned.
