Some of the previous presidents of SIAM (Society of Indian automotive manufacturers) have come together to find out a solution after the Supreme Court banned the sales of diesel engine powered cars above 2000cc. As per a report, an informal group has been taking inputs from the CEOs of auto companies on how could this issue be dealt.
Some of the SIAM past presidents like the Dr Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, Vikram Kirloskar, Toyota Kirloskar Vice Charman and Eicher Motors Chairman S Sandilya. The auto industry has been struggling with sales as diesel powered vehicles dominate in larger size vehicles.
The worst hit companies are the Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz and Tata Motors owned JLR as their entire diesel range is in excess of 2000cc. Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and even Toyota are the other worst affected automakers. Delhi and Mumbai are two cities were a majority of luxury cars are sold and the Supreme Court had banned the sale of these vehicles to meet the curb pollution in the NCR.
