Renault is working on a seven-seat compact SUV – the Grand Captur (codenamed – ‘HHA’) - that will be sold in emerging markets including India, and other Southeast Asian countries, claims a report. Though, the company hasn’t yet confirmed anything about the vehicle. Upon its launch, the Renault Grand Captur will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV500, and upcoming Honda BR-V and Tata Hexa. The production of the compact SUV will be commenced by next year in India.

Seen here are the rendered images of the Reanult’s new compact SUV that will be based on the extended version of the Duster’s platform. Since this platform is highly-localized, the Renault Grand Captur is likely to be priced competitively against its rivals. It will be bigger and more spacious than the regular global model of the Captur. It will look largely similar to the original Captur. Though, features like a long rear overhang and high ceiling will mark difference. The vehicle will come with seven-seat seating configuration, and share equipment with the regular Captur.

The Renault Grand Captur will be offered with two petrol – a Energy TCe 90 and TCe 120 EDC - and two diesel – Energy dCi 90 and dCi 90 EDC - engine options. All these powertrains also do duty to the regular Captur. Though there is no clarity about engines to be offered with the India-bound model. Transmission options on offer could be a five-speed manual or a six-speed EDC (efficient dual clutch) automatic. The India-bound model might get an AMT gearbox instead of the EDC unit as it has low-cost of maintenance.
