The premier American automobile company, General Motors (GM), China division has reported an increase in its sales by 15.3% in September this year, as against the same time in the previous year. Despite strict government policies, to remove incentives for buyers, and weak economic conditions, General Motors has confirmed that it sold around 2,40,244 units in September. General Motors China Group President, Kevin Wale stated, “GM has maintained our momentum in China, with all of our major brands setting new September sales marks.”
Furthermore, he said that “GM is on track to surpass 2 million annual sales this month in China for the second time in our history and achieve another record for the year as a whole.” General Motors China, in collaboration with a number of companies, has sold around 18,92,862 vehicles within the first 9 months of 2011.
The domestic sales for Buick, the premium brand of General Motors increased by 9.2% compared to September last year. The demand for Buick's passenger family car, Excelle increased by 23.8% and sold about 27,994 units. Moreover, the sales figures for Regal lineup also increased by 12% to 8.589 units in September this year. Excelle XT and GT sold around 13,221 units increasing the sales figures by 15.9%.
Chevrolet vehicles have reportedly set a new record during September this year, with 17.7% increase in the domestic sales, by selling 54,417 units. Chevrolet Cruze is one of China's bestselling vehicles and its sales shot up by 34.5% attaining sales of 23,212 units. Another car company under General Motors, Cadillac also managed to set a new sales record in China, with year over year sales increase of 39.7%.
The increase in demand for General Motors vehicles in China, have come as a surprise, given the change in the government policies and an existing weak economy. General Motors, China division, sales figures are expected to keep on improving for the rest of the year as well.
