Seat, the Spanish carmaker, has unveiled the new Ateca SUV at an exclusive event. The Ateca is the first SUV in the Seat portfolio after a long time and is based on the Volkswagen Tiguan – the one that is supposed to come to India quite soon. Seat has also announced that they will build two more SUVs by 2020.

The Ateca is a five-seater compact SUV and carries the styling cues from the Seat Leon sedan. The front grille, headlamps and the tail lamps resemble the Leon but with tweaks. The Ateca SUV is 4.36 metres long and with the same wheelbase as the Tiguan, it will offer good cabin space for the occupants. The total length is lesser than the Tiguan due to shorter rear overhang and a resulting lesser boot-space. On the equipment front, even the basic Ateca will get a display screen for its infotainment system with MirrorLink connectivity along with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The Ateca will be powered by Volkswagen group’s new 1.0-litre three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that develops close to 114bhp of power along with the 1.4-litre TSI petrol mill that churns out 148bhp. As for the diesel options, you will have the 1.6-litre 114bhp front-wheel-drive setup or you can opt for the 2.0-litre diesel in two states of tune -148bhp and 187bhp – along with an optional four-wheel-drive. The Ateca will get both the six-speed manual and the seven-speed DSG options.

The Ateca will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show where further details of the SUV will be revealed. Stay tuned to find out more about all cars at the Geneva Motor Show to be held in the first week of March.
