After introducing the updated 5 Series, iconic luxury car manufacturer BMW seems to be geared up for the refreshed Z4 that will arrive shortly in India. As told by sources, the company has confirmed the official launch date of updated Z4 as 14th November, 2013. The 2014 BMW Z4 will feature updates that are cosmetic in nature as it was much needed for the company to give a fresh lease of life to its ageing sports cars platform.

It must be mentioned that the current generation Z4 model is almost four years old and the upcoming updated version of the car is nothing more than a minor facelift. Talking about the changes, the car gets newly revamped headlights in addition to the partially restructured bumper. The changes made are so basic in nature that any individual would find it hard to differentiate between the older and newer version.

Also to mention, the upcoming Z4 rides on the new 18-inch wheels and shall be available in three colour options. As seen in updated 5 Series, the company has offered the new LED light fitments in Z4, which shall be standard across all trims. BMW has also offered advancements in the form of Real Time Traffic Updates, BMW Online Portal, GPS Navigation and internet based entertainment system apart from the internet radio and Automatic Collision Notification mechanism. It is for the first time that these features are included in the ConnectedDrive system of BMW Z4.

Talking about the changes made to the interiors, the car retains the same quality elements as given in the outgoing version. However, a few noticeable ones include gloss inserts around the central air-conditioning vents and an optional function of a folding central display for the iDrive system. The new trim options include an anthracite wood finish, which is a part of BMW Hyper Orange package.

For buyers who want a good audio package, the company has given an optional Premium Sound System with 14 speakers for them. Also, the potential buyers can avail the M Sport package on upcoming Z4 in which Adaptive M suspension, 18 inch M alloy wheels and an M aerodynamics package is provided. While under this package, sportier seats and M leather steering wheel are also given by the company.

According to reports, BMW would be offering a new entry-level variant for Z4 in order to make the much more accessible amongst the Indian buyers. The variant named as sDrive18i shall be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that would possess an ability to give away 154 bhp of power. It is all likely that the upcoming Z4 model would be priced around Rs. 70 lakh for the base trim.

In terms of competition, the updated BMW Z4 would be pitted against the likes of Mercedes-Benz SLK and Porsche Boxster. As the rival cars of Z4 have gone through major upgrades in the recent past, the market presence of BMW’s car has been affected to large extent. Industry experts feel that the rivalry in this segment will intensify further with the launch of upgraded Z4. Mercedes-Benz has done well in 2013, performing beyond expected levels. BMW, after having a relatively quiet period in first half of 2013, has gathered momentum in the second half by launching a number of new models.
