Mahindra and Mahindra had acquired a stake in Reva Electric earlier this year. Now Mahindra REVA Electric Vehicles are working on a light commercial vehicles introducing electricity-driven technology in Mahindra & Mahindra’s entire product portfolio.
“The teams from REVA and Mahindra are working on all the Mahindra models for launching electric vehicle technology. We are still exploring as to which vehicle will be launched first,” Mahindra REVA Electric Vehicles chief of operations R Chandramouli said.
The company is also planning to enter the US market which still remains one of the biggest auto markets in the world. It is in fact now fighting a legal battle with US dealer for delaying in launch of its SUV Scorpio in the US market. "US is an important and big market for electric vehicles. We are looking at that market. We will be there before our target of full global presence in next five years, but exactly when, that we have not decided yet," Mahindra REVA Electric Vehicles chief of operations R Chandramouli said.
Mahindra has already tested the prototype of its commercial vehicle Gio with electricity-driven technology and already sells two electric vehicles — Bijlee (three-wheeler) and Maxximo (mini truck).
