Renault will showcase a more powerful 1.0-litre version of its small car the Kwid at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo. The Renault Kwid with an AMT might also be shown at the show. The new 1.0-litre engine has been codenamed B4D and it will produce around 68bhp of power and close to 95Nm of peak torque. This new four-cylinder engine has been developed by Renault and Nissan, and shall also be seen on the Datsun Redi-Go.

Renault has also developed an AMT— automated manual transmission— with ZF that will be used on the Kwid. Renault and Nissan will be utilising the ZF AMTs on their new upcoming products. This will add another option to the Kwid’s portfolio. Renault is also been working towards offering ABS on its new entry-level hatchback. At the moment, there is no ABS offered on the Kwid.

This new hatchback was launched only with an 800cc engine and it has revolutionised the entry-level hatchback segment. Hyundai and Tata did launch products in this segment, but the Alto has remained as the strongest contender despite this. Renault is the only brand that has managed to succeed here. And now with these additions to the small car, Renault will only make the Kwid proposition stronger than ever.
