If the recent media reports are to be believed, the French car maker Renault is all set to make India a manufacturing and exports hub for its global Sports utility vehicle (SUV) – Duster. The Renault Duster, which is a low-cost SUV, will be rolled-out in the Indian market by the second quarter of next year.

In a recent statement given to ET, a person close to the development said, "India will be the exclusive manufacturing hub for all the right hand drive markets for Duster, including UK."

Renault is planning to export the Duster SUV to the UK market by the end of next year. The SUV will be sold in the UK market as Dacia. Though the company hasn’t made any official statement regarding the export destinations of the Duster model, but industry sources claim that the SUV will be later exported to the markets like South Africa, following UK.

While informing about the company’s future strategy in the Indian market, Ashish Sinharoy, vice-president (communications & corporate affairs) at Renault India, said, "For Renault, India is the focus market for the five cars that will be launched between May 2011 and December 2012." According to him, the company will definitely look at any opportunity for exporting made-in-India cars within the Renault global network in the future.

Renault India has recently launched its luxury sports utility vehicle – Koleos in the Indian market. The Koleos has been placed in competition with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva, and Honda CR-V.
