French car manufacturer, Renault, is a recent entrant into the promising Indian automobile market, where it is leveraging its tie-up with Nissan. Renault and Nissan jointly, manufacture cars, do badge engineering and share platforms. Badge engineering refers to altering a car’s front logo when developed by two car makers jointly. The new Renault Pulse is the result of badge engineering, as Nissan’s Micra has undergone badge engineering and is being called ‘Renault Pulse’.

As such, the Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse are quite similar when driven. Nevertheless, slight differences can be made out in the exteriors of the Renault Pulse. A stylish front grille and diverse alloys, make this model of Renault stand apart. The rear lights are also slightly different than that of the Nissan Micra.

The car has a good drivability and is equipped with a 1.5-litre, dCi engine, generating a power of 64 bhp at 4,000 rpm. It is easy to manoeuvre this car in the city during rush hours, due to its efficient gearbox. The engine is a little noisy, initially; however, as it cools down, the sounds also decrease. The car provides a torque of 1,200 rpm to a high 3,000 rpm.

The overall look of the car does seem very impressive, with excellent finishing touches. Use of good quality materials like interior plastic, panels and shiny paint, add to the appeal of the car. The cabin space of Renault Pulse is huge, with ample legroom and also has a big boot. It also carries all important safety and comfort features.

Hence, the Pulse with its powerful diesel engine, exquisite looks and vital security features, has all the calibre to emerge as a successful car
