Renault India, which shares its manufacturing facility in the Indian market with its global partner Japanese Nissan Motors, said on Thursday that it will not battle with Nissan on price front while selling its portfolio cars in the country.

Speaking to the reporters at the launching ceremony of compact hatchback Pulse, Renault India Managing Director Marc Nassif said, "We are sharing the Chennai facility with Nissan just to get the economies of scale effect. We have launched Pulse on the Nissan's Micra platform just to get into the hatchback segment in India." He added that the company doesn’t intend to battle Nissan on the price front.

While Nissan currently has two mass segment cars in its India portfolio including hatchback Micra and sedan Sunny, its partner Renault has recently entered the mass segment with launching Pulse hatchback, which is now in direct completion with Nissan’s Micra.

Meanwhile, Renault India has shown its keenness on entering the sub 4 lakh price car segment in the country, with the launch of a new small car below the price segment of Rs 4 lakh. Moreover, the company aims to cross the annual sales mark of 1 lakh units by year 2013, with the launch of new mass segment cars including new petrol version of Pulse hatchback.

Besides Pulse hatchback, the current India portfolio of Renault includes premium sedan Fluence and compact luxury sports utility vehicle Koleos. It will add two more models in its India portfolio by the end of this year.
