French Automaker Renault created storm in the Indian market with Duster compact SUV. Alongside the compact SUV trend that has been going around in the country for a while, many international carmakers are also launching their MUV fleet in the country. Honda launched its Mobilio MPV last month at an attractive starting price tag of about Rs. 6.49 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). Toyota’s Innova has also been a strong player in this segment along with Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga. The Lodgy MPV could be the new offering in Renault line-up which is expected to be longer than Mobilio MPV, but might measure shorter than Innova.
A while ago reports from Zeenews stated that Renault may launch the Lodgy MPV sometime around January next year. Reports also state that company has already received a go ahead plan to launch the vehicle in the Indian market. The Renault Lodgy shall be manufactured at Orgadam plant of Renault-Nissan. The production is due to begin in December and is expected to be launched in January, 2015. The vehicle is likely to be powered by 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine and is anticipated to be priced around Rs. 8 - 11 lakh bracket.
The Renault Lodgy MPV is on sale in many international markets, in India the company is likely to bring petrol and diesel variants of the MPV. The suavely designed MPV is expected to be priced aggressively for the domestic market which means it could be a potential threat for the rest of vehicles in its segment.
