The French car maker Renault launched its much awaited luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) Koleos in the Indian market on Thursday. The new Koleos model carries a price tag of Rs 22.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the second model by Renault in the Indian market as it had launched the premium sedan, Fluence just a few months back.
Powered by a 2.0L diesel power train, the Koleos model has an advanced six speed automatic transmission system. The car is available with a four wheel drive option. The Koleos will be taking on with the rivals like Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner, Nissan X-Trail, Chevrolet Captiva and Ford Endeavour.
Speaking to the reporters on the occasion, Renault India Vice-President (Marketing, Sales and Network) Len Curran said, "India is a key strategic market. We will launch 'Koleos' in 40 countries and India is one of the firsts among these. The first country was China where the SUV was launched yesterday and now it is India."
Following the failure of its first debut in India through Logan sedan in partnership with M &M, this time around the firm has adopted top to down approach to expand its Indian portfolio. The French auto giant will first strengthen its position in the premium segment along with building its brand image, and then will move to mass segment cars like compact hatchbacks and entry level sedans. The launch of new Koleos is in line with this strategy of the firm.
