Renault’s hot selling entry-level hatchback Kwid, has crossed the one lakh sales milestone in India in just about 14 months of presence in the country. Owing to Kwid’s popularity, the company had earlier spoken about its expectations to see Kwid reaching the one lakh figure sales before the end of this year. Moreover, with the addition of 1.0-litre variant sometime back which was soon followed by an AMT option, the numbers were surely expected to skyrocket.

Renault Kwid crosses one lakh sales in India

Back in September, Sumit Sawhney, CEO and MD Renault India stated that, in the period between January to August 2016, the company has sold 87,000 cars out of which 65,000 units were Kwid alone. With the newly introduced AMT option with a 1.0-litre engine, the demand is set to reach a whole new height, more so when exports begin to SAARC countries - Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Currently, Renault Kwid is available in two engine options - 799cc three-cylinder petrol engine which generates 53bhp of power and 72Nm of torque, while newer one comes with a 999cc three-cylinder petrol engine which generates 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. Five-speed manual transmission comes as standard on both the models, but customers can opt for an AMT option in the bigger engine version. The AMT version is positioned in straight line of competition with the Maruti Suzuki’s Alto K10.
