Renault Kwid is selling close to 9,000 units a month. It might not be a lot compared to the likes of the Alto, but for Renault, it still is runaway success. Now, Renault wants to expand the Kwid portfolio with a more powerful 1.0-litre Kwid as well as an AMT equipped versions. According to a report, Sumit Sawhney, Head, Renault India, has been quoted as saying that the company will launch the 1.0-litre Kwid variant ahead of Diwali this year. It will also introduce an AMT version of the car around the same time.

The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre variant will make around 67bhp of power and will come mated to a five speed manual transmission. The AMT transmission option will also be offered on the 1.0-litre variant and not the existing 800cc engine. The vehicle on the whole looks a lot similar to the existing model except for the SCe badging indicating 1.0-litre variant at the rear.

In terms of safety, we expect that the new Kwid variants will get the option of ABS with EBD and dual front airbags, unlike the present option of only the driver side airbags. Inside, it might also be offered with a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. Post launch it will emerge as a strong competitor against the Maruti’s Alto K10 that also comes with an optional AMT transmission.
